Building smart citys together

We took a great leap in our evolution towards becoming a leading player in the Smart City marketspace, when exhibiting in the Nordic Pavilion at the Smart City Expo World Congress, SCEWC, in Barcelona 13-15 November.

The SCEWC is a large event, focusing on IoT and digital transformation, applied to Smart City environments. This year, the event attracted more than 21 000 visitors from 146 countries. Representatives of more than 700 cities attended and helped to drive traffic to the event’s 844 exhibitors – one of them being us.

We were graciously invited by IoT Sweden and Cleantech Scandinavia, to exhibit as a key Swedish player in the area of IoT and digital transformation. It was evident from start, that the organizers’ focus on identifying business opportunities through social innovation and partnering, permeated the entire event. Everyone was actively exploring opportunities both from a vendor-, city- and municipality perspective.

The event was, not surprisingly, full of solution providers for smart street lights, smart localization solutions for public bikes, smart parking meters and other gadgets and devices. However, the topics that accounted for the bulk of the discussions were:

  • How to drive sustainability through waste reduction
  • How to meet the increasing need for connected healthcare
  • How to optimize the resource usage when the population grows older
  • Various surveillance initiatives combined with AI
  • Predictive algorithms to optimize the use of emergency services

The interest in our open, horizontal platform approach led to a lot of long and deep discussions with both vendors as well as a multitude of European cities attending the show. During the event, one of the bigger interest drivers for our Connective platform was our presentation for participants and visitors of the Nordic pavilion, resulting in an invitation to speak at the Holland pavilion as well. Being seen in these contexts drove a noticeable increase in traffic to our booth.

The success of the event and the interest it generated will act as a catalyst in taking our proposition to the next level. We are making a name for ourselves in the space of Smart Cities and we are confident we will remain an important player in creating a better future for cities and their citizens worldwide.
